The 2027 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 starts a new generation, and this isn't a case of changing the grille and moving a few buttons around. Chevrolet has replaced both V8 engines, upgraded the TurboMax™, redesigned the cabin, increased maximum trailering capacity, and added hardware to its off-road models. For Peoria, AZ, truck shoppers comparing the 2026 and 2027 Silverado, the differences become especially clear once you get past the bodywork and look at the numbers.
Three of Four Engines Change Significantly
Both generations offer 4 engines, but only the 3.0L Duramax® Turbo-Diesel carries over with the same 305 hp and 495 lbs. ft. of torque. The 2026 TurboMax™ produces 310 hp and 430 lbs. ft. of torque and uses an 8-speed automatic. For 2027, those figures climb to 350 hp and 455 lbs. ft. of torque, and the transmission becomes a 10-speed automatic. Chevrolet also replaces the previous V8s. The 2026 5.3L produces 355 hp and 383 lbs. ft. of torque; its new 5.7L successor makes 402 hp and 428 lbs. ft. of torque. The old 6.2L's 420 hp and 460 lbs. ft. of torque are replaced by 481 hp and 501 lbs. ft. of torque from the new 6.6L V8.
Maximum Trailering Climbs to 13,700 lbs.
For 2026, the Silverado's maximum available trailering capacity is 13,300 lbs. with the 3.0L Duramax® Turbo-Diesel, while maximum available payload reaches 2,260 lbs. The 2027 truck changes the hierarchy. Its new 5.7L V8 carries the highest published trailering rating at up to 13,700 lbs. with a properly equipped Double Cab 2WD and Max Trailering Package. A comparable 4WD configuration reaches 13,600 lbs. The upgraded TurboMax™ can tow up to 9,400 lbs., while a Regular Cab 2WD configuration carries a published base payload figure as high as 2,340 lbs. Cab, bed, drivetrain, equipment, passengers, and cargo still affect the rating of an individual truck.
The Dashboard Takes a Major Digital Step
Select 2026 Silverado models offer a 13.4-inch touchscreen paired with a 12.3-inch Driver Information Center. For 2027, every Silverado receives a 16.3-inch center display and 12.2-inch Driver Information Center. High Country and ZR2 add an 11.5-inch passenger display, Head-Up Display, and Rear Camera Mirror, helping create more than 60 inches of combined digital display area. An available Multi-Flex Center Console adds storage and can convert into a work surface. Super Cruise® with trailering capability is standard on High Country and ZR2 and available on Silverado and Trail Boss, extending hands-free driver assistance to compatible roads while pulling a compatible trailer.
ZR2 Moves From 33-Inch to 35-Inch Tires
The 2026 ZR2 already carries substantial off-road equipment, including 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory® MT tires, Multimatic® DSSV dampers, front and rear electronic-locking differentials, and an off-road-cut front bumper. The 2027 version retains its 2-inch lift, DSSV dampers, and electronic lockers but moves to 35-inch MT tires and adds jounce dampers. Trail Boss also receives 34-inch MT tires, a 2-inch factory lift, and monotube shocks. Those changes give Chevrolet more separation between its factory-lifted trucks and the rest of the Silverado range.
Ten Models Become Seven
Chevrolet also simplifies the lineup. The 2026 range contains 10 models, while 2027 reduces that to WT, Custom, Custom Trail Boss, Silverado, Trail Boss, High Country, and ZR2. Silverado replaces the previous LT nameplate. New LED headlights and taillights, redesigned bodywork, and stronger visual differences between models make the generational change easier to spot, but the revised engines and chassis equipment remain the more significant developments.
